Medical Device Symbol

The Symbol on this page are used in medical device labeling in accordance with ISO 15223, ISO 7000 and other applicable standards. They are used to convey information on the safe and effective use of medical devices. These symbols may be used on the medical device itself, on its packaging or in associated documentation.

Symbol	Title/Description
	Manufacturer Indicates the medical device manufacturer, as defined in EU Directives 90/385/EEC, 93/42/EEC and 98/97/EC.
	Authorized Representative in the European Community This symbol shall be accompanied by the name of address of the authorized representative in European Community, adjacent to the symbol.
	Date of manufacture Indicates the date when the medical device was manufactured.
	Made in country Indicates the country where the medical device was manufactured. The ‘CC’ in the symbol is the country code per EN 1041+A1.
	Use-by-date Indicates the date after which the medical device is not to be used.
	Batch code Indicates the manufacturer's batch code so that the the batch or lot can be identified.
	Catalogue number Indicates the manufacturer's catalogue number so that the medical can be identified.
	Serial number Indicates the manufacturer's serial number so that the specific medical device can be identified.
	CE mark Indicates a medical device conforms with health, safety, and environmental protection standards for products sold within the European Economic Area (EEA). The CE marking is also found on products sold outside the EEA that are manufactured in, or designed to be sold in, the EEA.
	Fragile, handle with care Indicates a medical device that can be broken or damaged if not handled carefully.
	This way up Indicates correct upright position of the transport package.
	Keep away from sunlight Indicates a medical device that needs protection from light sources.
	Keep dry Indicates a medical device that needs to be protected from moisture.
	Lower limit of temperature Indicates the lower limit of temperature to which the medical device can be safely exposed.
	Upper limit of temperature Indicates the upper limit of temperature to which the medical device can be safely exposed.
	Temperature limit Indicates the temperature limits to which the medical device can be safely exposed.
	Humidity limitation Indicates the range of humidity to which the medical device can be exposed.
	Atmospheric pressure limitation Indicates the range of atmospheric pressure to which the medical device can be exposed.
	Recyclable Indicates that an item can be replaced.
	Do not re-use Indicates a medical device that is intended for one use, or for use on a single patient during a single procedure.
	Consult instructions for use Indicates the need for the user to consult the instructions for use.
	Caution Indicates the need for the user to consult the instructions for use for important cautionary information such as warnings and precautions that cannot, for a variety of reasons, be presented on the medical device itself.
$contains latex$	Contains or presence of natural rubber latex Indicates the presence of natural rubber or dry natural rubber latex as a material of construction within the medical or the packaging of a medical device.
	One-way valve Indicates a medical device with a valve that allows flow in only one direction.
	Medical device Indicates that the device is a medical device.
	Hot surfaces Indicates hot surfaces present. Do not touch without protection.
	Use personal protective equipment Indicates usage of personal protective equipment when and where needed.
	Corrosive chemical present Indicates presence of corrosive chemical.
	Oxidizing chemical present Indicates presence of oxidizing chemical.
	Toxic chemical present Indicates presence of toxic chemical.
	High voltage hazard Indicates hazard due to high voltage.
	On/Off Indicates on and/or off.
	Alternating current Indicates alternating current.
	WEEE symbol Indicates that the device or component cannot be recycled.
	RCM Indicates compliance with applicable ACMA regulatory arrangements.
	TUV Indicates TUV private organizations compliance of technical products to OSHA requirements. US indicates compliance to US requirements and C indicates compliance to Canadian requirements.
	Universal serial bus connector port Indicates universal serial bus connector port.
	Excepted quantity Indicates excepted quantity in a shipper box.
	Limited quantity Indicates limited quantity in a shipper box.
	Emits laser radiation Indicates emits laser radiation. Avoid direct exposure.
	Warning Indicates warnings.
	Caution Indicates caution.
	Electric shock hazard Indicates electric shock hazard.
	Ultraviolet light hazard Indicates ultraviolet light hazard. Avoid direct exposure.
	Direct current Indicates direct current.
	For indoor use only Indicates indoor use only.
	Flammable Indicates that the content(s) are flammable.
	Magnetic field Indicates that a magnetic field exists and may interfere with the function of an implanted pacemaker.
	Pinch point Indicates that the area inside may have the potential to pinch your hands or fingers.
